Pentecost

Come Holy Spirit, our hearts inspire

and fill us with your holy fire

We pray for our world in all its extraordinary diversity and variety of languages and cultures

For the global superpowers in their triumphs and suppressed anxieties

For China who for all its newfound economic muscle is still anxious about its aging population

For America who for all its military shock and awe is still anxious about its economy and place in the world

And we remember the small nations of the world and their struggles to live at the table of the nations while still retaining their language and distinctive gifts

Lord in your mercy...

Come Holy Spirit, our hearts inspire

and fill us with your holy fire

We pray for our churches

May we experience once more that Spirit which inspired our forebears in the faith with the holy fire

May we be touched by the gentle dove of peace and be filled with love, generosity and hospitality

May we know the comforting presence of the Paraclete: calming us when we are worried and troubled by finances, building repairs and disagreements; and challenging us when we get too comfortable and forget the urgent demands of Christ

Lord in your mercy...

Come Holy Spirit, our hearts inspire

and fill us with your holy fire

We pray for ourselves

For all we know who are feeling cold, or empty or friendless and distant from your Spirit hope and comfort

For our families and friends who are experiencing difficulties that we can't solve

For ourselves. For the worries we have suppressed and fear to dwell on. For our hopes which we hardly dare imagine. For our longings to be filled with your Spirit and drawn more deeply into your powerful love

Come Holy Spirit, our hearts inspire

and fill us with your holy fire

Lord in your mercy...
